Kearney, Neb. – Black Hills State Track and field team competed at the University of Nebraska Kearney Twilight Meet and were led by Cody Milbourn in the Hammer Throw who placed a new meet record of 52.45 Meters.

Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State athletic department is hosting a forum for the public to discuss a potential move from the NAIA to NCAA Division II.  The forum will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11 in the Hall of Fame Room of the Donald E. Young Center and is open to everyone.  There is no charge to attend the informational meeting.

Spearfish, S.D. -  Rebecca Green, a senior at Rapid City Stevens High School, has signed with the Yellow Jackets to play softball.  Becky’s parents are Susan and Jim Green. She plans to major in Education at Black Hills State.

Spearfish, S.D. – Black Hills State signs Douglas County High School senior Katherine Drake. Drake averaged 10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals a game for the Huskies. Drake will join the Jackets for the 2010-2011 season.

Spearfish, S.D. – Black Hills State golf team strived for improvement this year and they accomplished that and have two all-conference golfers to show for it. Freshmen Brandi Holmes and Jenessa Rantapaa each earned the honor for the Jackets.

Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State University Softball Team went one and one in a double header against Western Nebraska Community College at the BHSU Softball Complex. The Yellow Jackets looked good early in the afternoon defeating the Cougars 8-0. However, the Yellow Jackets were not able to keep the fire alive in the second game as they fell 1-10.

Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State softball team dropped two games to conference rival Dickinson State Tuesday afternoon.  The Yellow Jackets lost the first game 6-0 and  then fell in the second game 8-0 in six innings.

Spearfish, S.D. – The annual spring football scrimmage and gridiron gathering was a success this past weekend with nearly 500 people attending the game and over 70 participating in the First Annual Gridiron Gathering.

Dickinson, N.D. – The Black Hills State University Golf Team finished their season a day earlier then they had expected, as weather forced the cancelation of the second day of competition. The Yellow Jackets finished the in third place with two golfers landing in the top 10.

Spearfish, S.D. – Black Hills State Head Softball Coach Amy Gurney announced today that the Yellow Jackets have added a doubleheader match-up against Western Nebraska Community College scheduled for Wednesday, April 28. Game times are set for 3 and 5 p.m. MT. at the Black Hills State University Softball Complex.

Dickinson, N.D. – Black Hills State Golf team sits in third place after one day of competition. Dickinson is in first place on the first day of competition they shot 348 as a team, Minot is in second place with a 351 and Black Hills State is in third place with a 359. Leading the way for the Jackets is Emily Chapman who tallied a 87 after the first day of competition.

Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State Yellow Jackets fair well as they host the Yellow Jacket open. No team scores were tallied but the Jackets did have 19 top five finishers for the day.

Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State University softball team won two games in the first day of a double header against the Valley City Vikings.  In the first game the Yellow Jackets defeated the Vikings five to three and in the second game the Jackets outscored their opponent seven to two.

Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State athletic department will be hosting a 4-on-4 coed volleyball tournament on May 16 at the Young Center in Spearfish.  The format of the tournament will be pool play followed by a double-elimination bracket play.

Minot, N.D. – The Black Hills State softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Minot State by scores of 3-0 and 9-8.  The losses drop the Yellow Jackets to 12-17 overall and 4-10 in Dakota Athletic Conference play.

Pueblo, Colo. – The Black Hills State women’s track and field team tied for first place at the CSU Pueblo Invite with Fort Hays State scoring 83 points.  The men’s track and field team tied for 11th place.

Sioux City, Iowa – The Black Hills State track and field team sent ten distance runners, five, men and five women, to compete at the Sioux City Relays.  The group had four automatic and two provisional qualifiers for the NAIA Outdoor Championships.

Rapid City, S.D. –Black Hills State freshman Jenessa Rantapaa placed first in the S.D. School of Mines Invitational with a two-day total of 171.  Rantapaa won the tournament by three strokes.

Dickinson, N.D. – The Black Hills State men’s and women’s track and field teams travelled to Dickinson, N.D. on Friday to compete in the Blue Hawk Games.  The men’s team finished in second place with a score of 182 points and the women’s team placed third with 99 points.

Rapid City, S.D. – The Black Hills State University Yellow Jacket Golf Team kicked off their spring season at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology Invitational. They had a solid effort with three golfers finishing in the top 10 after the first day of competition and as a team is currently sitting in third place.

Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State football team returned to the field today for its first full practice of the spring.  Today was the first of 10 practices scheduled for the spring.  The spring drills will conclude with a scrimmage on April 24 at 11 a.m.

Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women’s basketball team had six student-athletes named NAIA Academic All-Scholars for their outstanding performances on and off the court.  The Yellow Jackets had the second most award winners in the NAIA.  There were 177 NAIA Division II women’s basketball players that met the criteria of a minimum 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale and were at least at a junior academic status.

Greeley, Colo. – The Black Hills State University track and field team competed at the Tom Benich Track and Field Classic at Northern Colorado.  No team scores were tallied, however, the Yellow Jackets finished with 12 athletes in the top ten.
