This past weekend will be memorable in more ways than one for Black Hills State University’s Junior Katelynn Lamb. When asked what the most memorable part of her trip to North Dakota to take on Dickinson State University and Minot State University was this past weekend she did not mention how their travel plans had to be changed due to road closures, it was her scoring her 1,000 point as a Yellow Jacket versus Minot State University on January 23, 2010.

January 25, 2010 – After getting temporarily stuck in North Dakota due to inclement weather and road closures, the Black Hills State Men’s Basketball team squared off against a tough opponent in Minot State University. The Yellow Jackets fell to the Beavers 75-81.

Paige Albers, a senior at Doherty High School in Colorado Springs, CO has signed a letter of intent at Black Hills State University for softball beginning in the fall of 2010. Paige is the younger sister of current junior first baseman, Nicole Albers. Paige will study Journalism at BHSU. Her parents are Rob and Betsy Albers.

Saturday, January 16, 2010 – The Black Hills State Yellow Jackets Track and Field competed at the 2010 Holiday Inn Invitational this weekend. The Yellow Jackets had 14 of their athletes with top 10 finishes in their respective events.

Saturday, January 16, 2010 – Tonight the Black Hills State University Men’s Basketball Team butted heads with a scrappy conference opponent in Dakota State University. Despite the minimal two point margin at the half, the Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets were able to fight off the Trojans and pick up the win 68-66.

Entering its fourth year of competition, the Yellow Jackets softball team under head coach Amy Gurney, look to make some noise in the Dakota Athletic Conference in the 2010 spring softball season. The Yellow Jackets finished 4th in 2009 and expect to improve on that mark returning 10 players from last season. “Every year we expect to improve, commented head coach Amy Gurney.

Darci Herman of Rapid City, SD, Brook Grant of Chadron, NE, and Haylee McVicker of Alliance, NE have all signed a letter of intent to play softball at Black Hills State University for the 2010-2011 season. “It’s very important that we have local talent on the team, commented Coach Gurney. There are many athletes in this region with the potential to play at the college level. We want players on our team who represent that potential.”
