During the last few decades, with the increase use of technology and the increasing complexity of our society, many large businesses are increasing their math departments to solve business related problems. Furthermore, math degrees have always had a level of respect by many (please read -- Working Your Degree -- An article by CNN Money). It appears that we are entering an exciting period for math and math related degrees (please look at Careers in Math).
Required Core - 38 semester hours

Currently, there is a shortage of secondary mathematics educators. Graduates in secondary math education tend to accept their first teaching job, late in their senior year. A minor is NOT required with this major but electives are required to total 128 hours. Students are encouraged to pursue a minor, but to be certified to teach, a content praxis exam must be passed in both the major & minor areas of study.
