Why did you choose Black Hills State University?
I chose Black Hills State University for a couple of different reasons. The first one is that I had friends in the Accounting Program and they told me that it was one of the best programs in the state. I also chose Black Hills State because of the location in Spearfish. I love the fact Black Hills State is right in the middle of the Hills.
What is your major and why did you choose this specific major?
My major is Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting. I chose this major because I really enjoy math and working with numbers, but I also enjoy working with people. People think that being an Accountant means sitting in a room with just a computer, but a lot of it really has to do with communicating with people.
What has been your experience in your major?
I have had a very good experience with in my major here at Black Hills State University. I really like that I get to know the teachers on a personal level. I feel like the professors at Black Hills are very personable and they are willing to meet with you anytime to make sure that you are getting the most for your money.
What was your favorite business course at BHSU and why?
My favorite course at Black Hills State is probably Managerial Accounting. This is probably because while taking the class I decided that this is, most likely, the type of Accounting that I would like to work in when I graduate. It was just a very interesting type of accounting that deals with more of the day-to-day accounting in a business rather than just the financial reporting or doing taxes.
What do you like most about BHSU and the School of Business?
The thing that I probably like most about the School of Business is the fact that they are working towards accreditation. This is very exciting because this means that we will be one of the few colleges in the United State with this accreditation. This places Black Hills State University ahead of many other Universities in the United States. It also means that my degree will mean more to future employers.
What activities are you involved in here at Black Hills State University?
I am involved in the Presidential Student Ambassadors. This organization helps the community and students get together. This allows the students in the group to network with people throughout the community and alumni.
In what way do you feel BHSU has best prepared you for your future career?
Black Hills State University has prepared me for entering the workforce by making sure I gain the necessary knowledge for taking an job in the accounting field. The classes I have taken at Black Hills State have done this by having many different classes to prepare me for all the options out there.
Where do you see your career in 10 years?
In 10 years I would like to be working for a big fortune 500 company, either Starbucks or Under Armour, in their Accounting department as a supervisor.
