In celebration of Arbor Day, Black Hills State University students, staff and community members helped make the campus a bit greener.
The group planted trees and helped with the pruning of trees on campus April 24. The event was held during Outdoor Week at BHSU. The Arbor Day celebration was coordinated through BHSU’s new tree planting committee, whose goal is to increase the number and diversity of trees on campus.
“The Shells of Time,” a rock ‘n’ roll band based out of the Black Hills from 1967-1975 featuring nine Black Hills State University alumni, was inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame recently.
Students from the Black Hills State University Honors Program will defend their capstone projects May 4 and May 7 at 3 p.m. in the Joy Alumni Center in this semester’s final installment of the Geek Speak lecture series.

Now, it’s Shann’s turn to be honored. He’ll be presented with an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree during BHSU’s commencement ceremony May 9.

More than 500 students participated in the spring session of the South Dakota Stock Market Game (SDSMG) operated through the BHSU Center for Economic Education, the only stock market game licensed in South Dakota through the Securities Industry Financial Markets Association (SIFMA).

BHSU recognized nine students last week during the Annual Bellman Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Writing recognizing the students for their exceptional papers submitted throughout the 2014-2015 school year.
In addition to notable American Indian speakers on campus throughout the week, BHSU expects over 3,000 participants and spectators for the 32nd Annual Lakota Omniciye Wacipi (Pow Wow) April 17-19 at the Donald E. Young Sports & Fitness Center on the BHSU campus.
