The Black Hills State University Honors Program has grown significantly since it was established on campus in 2003. From fall 2003 to fall 2010 the program, which offers highly motivated students a challenging and enriching education, has grown 125 percent.

Black Hills State University will begin the community lecture and lunch series Thursday, Oct. 21, at 11:30 in the Jacket Legacy Room of the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union. Dr. David Siemens, associate professor of biology, will be speaking on “House Hunting Botany Style: What limits the evolution of local range in plants.”
Five Black Hills State University students had articles accepted for publication in the 2010 Proceedings of the National Conference on Undergraduate Research. NCUR Proceedings is a prestigious national journal which features the scholarship of students who have presented papers at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research.
Dr. Dorothy Fuller, associate professor of education at BHSU, was among the Teacher Education Editorial Board which received the Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT) Cup Award this year. The House Cup is awarded to the Editorial Board that makes the highest level of contributions in an academic year.
More than 400 were candidates for Spring 2010 graduation at Black Hills State University.
Black Hills State University education graduates may qualify to participate in the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi recently initiated 47 Black Hills State University undergraduate and graduate students to the Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 307.
A reception was held at Black Hills State University before commencement for the graduates in the BHSU Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction (MSCI) program. The reception gave students who have taken online courses the opportunity to meet each other and their faculty in person.
