Dr. John Henry Glover will serve as interim associate dean at the University of South Dakota as a national search is conducted to fill the position made vacant with the retirement of associate dean Tom Sorensen at the end of December. Glover will be on leave from Black Hills State University where he is a professor of American Indian Studies.

Black Hills State University faculty, staff and students will be swinging, jiving and tapping their feet as they battle it out for the coveted BHSU mirror ball trophy while at the same time raising money for local ranchers. The Dancing with the Staff, a spoof of ABC’s popular “Dancing with the Stars” show, takes place Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Jacket Legacy Room of the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union.

The Black Hills State University photography student Julieanne Morse from Spearfish recently returned from a nine-month deployment with South Dakota’s National Guard 129th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment where she teamed up with a broadcast journalist and documented the daily lives of the troops.

Johanna Meier, internationally recognized opera star from Spearfish and Black Hills State University honorary alumnus, was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Opera Association in New York City. The award recognizes Meier’s outstanding career achievement and her continuing presence in the education of young singers.

Four Black Hills State University professors along with several other Spearfish residents will share their stories of immigration to the United States through an exhibit at the Matthews Opera House Gallery titled “Over Land & Sea: Immigration Stories of Spearfish.”

The opening reception for the exhibit is Friday, Feb. 7 from 5-7 p.m. in the Matthews Opera House Gallery. The exhibit will be up through Feb. 22.
