The South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) at Black Hills State University will host the third annual “Celebrating Women in Business Luncheon” at the Spearfish Holiday Inn May 17.  For the first time, state-wide awards will be presented in four categories to exemplary women in business.

Black Hills State University sophomore Lindee Lawrence, biology major from Spearfish, is the recipient of the 2012 Kevin Whirlwind Horse Memorial Scholarship. Each year during the Kevin Whirlwind Horse Memorial Run/Walk, a $500 scholarship is presented to an American Indian sophomore who demonstrates outstanding academic ability and leadership skills. The overall winners for this year’s race were Wes Broeder, Spearfish, and Marci Holben, Spearfish, in the 5K run; and Philip Schwartz, Spearfish, and Keena Byrd-Moro, Spearfish, in the 10K run.

Black Hills State University student organization, Students in Free Enterprise (S.I.F.E.), have taken action to make a difference in the community by reducing the amount of plastic shopping bags used.  Members of the organization are helping to preserve the environment by helping educate the community in hopes they will participate in a more sustainable lifestyle. The project is called “It’s in the Bag.”

The first presentation will take place Tuesday, April 24 from noon to 1 p.m. in Spearfish at the Donald E. Young Sports and Fitness Center, room #206 on the BHSU campus. The second session will be held Thursday, April 26 from noon to 1 p.m. in the lower level of the Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary Hospice House, 224 Elk St.
