BHSU faculty series features business professor Dr. Rob Girtz

 Dr. Rob Girtz

Dr. Rob Girtz, assistant professor of economics at Black Hills State University, will present a lecture “Wages, Education, and Personality” Thursday, April 3 at 3:30 p.m. in Clare and Josef Meier Hall, Room 205.

This is the third presentation in the Celebrating Accomplishments series, sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs at BHSU. The series features faculty members who have recently finished their dissertations and earned their doctorates with talks that highlight their research.

Girtz’s research examines the effects that personality traits have on microeconomic outcomes, such as earnings and education. He will be presenting two chapters from his dissertation. The first paper, which is published, examines the effect of locus of control, the belief that individuals can control events in their lives, and self-esteem on wages.

The second paper extends the first by examining the mediation effect of education on self-esteem and wages. Both works draw data from a nationally representative cohort of individuals surveyed from 1979 to the present.

There is no charge for the series and community is invited to help BHSU celebrate Girtz’s accomplishment as well as his contributions to BHSU, his students and the community. For more information contact Dr. David Wolff, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, at David.Wolff@BHSU.edu or 642-6221.
