Black Hills State University recognized the continued support of its donors during the recent 1883 Recognition Dinner.
| Spearfish resident Carol Lundberg was honored as the 2013 Difference Maker, an award given each year to BHSU’s top donor of the previous calendar year.
The annual dinner is a time for BHSU to recognize donors who have contributed $1,883 or more in a calendar year and lifetime supports of $50,000 or more. The 1883 dinner, named for the University’s founding year, was started by BHSU President Kay Schallenkamp in 2007. At that time, the 1883 Club had 51 donors. Today, the club has more than 140 members.
“We raised just over a record $5 million in 2013. The generosity of our alumni and friends is astounding and the 1883 Banquet is just a small token of our appreciation,” according to Steve Meeker, vice president of University Advancement.
Spearfish resident Carol Lundberg was honored as the 2013 Difference Maker, an award given each year to BHSU’s top donor of the previous calendar year. Lundberg grew up in eastern South Dakota but made her way to sunny California soon after graduating high school. Growing up in an era without the ease of global communication, Lundberg relocated to a more metropolitan area to pursue her career.
While it was a big step, it was the right step for Lundberg. She received a job offer in the self-insured health care industry where she stayed for the next several decades working her way up the ladder in what was mostly a male dominated field. Now at 78 years old, the former Californian and world traveler is sharing her successes by making life a little bit better for Black Hills State University college students. Lundberg donated scholarship money for students studying math and science and math and science education.
Previous Difference Maker Award recipients include: Junior and Ella Schloe; James and Phyllis McDaniel; Donna McLaughlin; Joe and Elaine Floyd; Betty Richey; Harvey and Joy Krautschun; and Dana, LaDawn, Alana and Dan Dykhouse.
