More than 150 Black Hills State University students, alumni and community members had an opportunity to network with a record number of employers at the recent BHSU Spring Career Fair.

Recruiters from more than 50 companies attended the fair looking to fill full-time, part-time, internship, and summer positions. The number of recruiters was the largest the career fair has had so far, which made the event move to the much bigger Donald E. Young Center Sport and Fitness Center Field House.  The career fair brought in more than 130 BHSU students, approximately 20 community members, and 10 BHSU alumni.

Lisa Harsh, BHSU student success advisor, says employers are very interested in meeting, interviewing, and hiring BHSU students.

The purpose of the career fair is to provide students exposure to many opportunities as well as offer exposure to the employers. The event allows students to get experience with interviewing and meeting new businesspeople. The convenience of the fair allows students to present their resumes, network, and learn about different types of careers all in one place.

One student was hired on the spot, several others interviewed that day and some lined up interviews   in the near future, Harsh said.

One of the goals for the spring career fair was to ensure BHSU students “dressed for success.”

“We were impressed with how professional the students were with their attire and their attitudes. That was really neat to see,” said Harsh.
