Annual Hunger Banquet fundraiser set for March 29 at Black Hills State University

Black Hills State University will host the annual Hunger Banquet Tuesday, March 29 at 5 p.m. in the David B. Miller Student Union Jacket Legacy Room.

Guests at the banquet will draw for their meal and assume characterizations that describe the situation of a specific person at the income level to which they’ve been assigned. All guests are invited to share their thoughts after the meal.

“Few experiences bring to life the inequalities in our world more powerfully than a Hunger Banquet event,” said Micheline Hickenbotham, assistant professor, education. “Some of the concepts behind the event are to increase awareness of the global disparity in food equity and learning basic facts about local and world hunger.”

The banquet, sponsored by the BHSU Human Services Club and the BHSU University Multicultural Committee, is open to the public.

A booth will be set up in the Student Union to purchase tickets starting Tuesday, March 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or at the door the day of the event. Suggested donation is $5.00 with the full donation to benefit United Way of the Black Hills. For more information email Micheline.Hickenbotham@BHSU.edu or call 642-6243.
