The Black Hills State University Theatre Department will present a musical comedy Jan. 27-29 at 7:30 p.m. in the remodeled Laboratory Theatre located in the lower level of Pangburn Hall.
The production, which features music and lyrics by Jeff Bowen, is from an original piece written by Hunter Bell. It tells the story of two struggling young artists who decide to write an original work for a musical theatre competition even though the deadline is just three weeks away. With the help of their friends, the two men write and perform a show in the festival and along the way they learn about themselves as people, friends, and artists. The South Dakota premier production, simply called [title of show], is recommended for mature audiences only, due to adult situations and language. It will be presented in a black box format.
The cast is comprised of current BHSU students Tyler Raad, senior mass communication and speech communication major from Spearfish; Jacob Roman, senior speech communication and music major from Spearfish; and Jessica Juhrend, senior speech communication major from Spearfish. They are joined by recent BHSU graduates Kayla Sanford and Philip Braun. The production is directed Bert Juhrend, BHSU theatre director, and stage-managed by Ann Thompson, senior mass communication and speech communication major from Spearfish.
