The South Dakota Community Foundation is pleased to announce that the South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) has been awarded a $7,000 grant to assist with increasing the number of microenterprises and small businesses in South Dakota.
This grant was presented through the South Dakota Community Foundation’s statewide grant program. Chuck Riter, Norbert Sebade and Peg Seljeskog from Rapid City serve on the board of directors for the South Dakota Community Foundation.
SD CEO focuses on assisting women-owned businesses, and also provides services to five target groups in South Dakota: women, women veterans, youth, minorities and the socially or economically-disadvantaged. They provide training and technical assistance to startups and existing small businesses in an effort to foster economic development in rural and under-served communities. SD CEO has three programs to execute over each of the years in its five year plan: business training, entrepreneurial assistance and training, and banking and personal finance workshops.
The Black Hills State University Foundation proudly hosts the SD CEO on the BHSU campus. BHSU provides in-kind contribution, which includes computers and furniture, IT support, marketing resources, office space and utilities in Woodburn and accounting and grant administration services.
According to Ginger Niemann, program officer of the South Dakota Community Foundation, “we are pleased to partner with the SD CEO on this important economic development project.”
The South Dakota Community Foundation is a public non-profit organization established in 1987. The foundation co-mingles money from over 400 funds for investment and administration purposes. Earnings from nearly $100 million are available for distribution for non-profit, charitable and scholarship purposes.
