More than 150 students and alumni, as well as more than two dozen community members, attended the Black Hills Teacher Fair held recently at Black Hills State University.

Total applicant attendance was up 38 percent from last year. Twenty-six school districts representing seven states took part in the event, recruiting new and experienced teachers. School district representatives noted that BHSU teacher education graduates have earned a stellar reputation for their professionalism and classroom success.

“One of the reasons our teacher candidates are so successful is their professionalism,” stated Sara Elias, Career Counselor at BHSU. “The College of Education does a tremendous job preparing them with the necessary professional skills, as well as a professional attitude and appearance. Looking the part during career fairs and interviews is key to communicating their readiness to enter the classroom.”

Elias noted that one school district scheduled 11 interviews at the fair, and another stated, “The students’ energy and excitement was infectious!”
