Dan Patterson, a Black Hills State University Class of 2002 graduate, recently returned to his alma mater to speak to mass communications students about social media and share his experiences in this rapidly changing field.
Patterson, who lives in Brooklyn, N.Y., is the Digital Audio Manager for ABC News Radio. He has been a credentialed United Nations correspondent since 2007. Using both traditional media (radio, print) and social media (video and audio podcasts, blogging) he has covered many components of the UN, including the annual gathering of the General Assembly, the Russia/Georgia conflict, the Myanmar cyclone and countless stakeouts, briefings. He has also interviewed ambassadors and reported from the annual Talk Radio Day.
During the 2008 presidential campaign he covered several major events, including many debates, the New Hampshire Primary, Super Tuesday, the Democratic and Republican Conventions, and Election Day. In March 2008 he reported from within Darfur and both live (terrestrial radio) and asynchronously (podcasts, blogging, Twitter).
