Black Hills State University students trick or treating for a cause collected over 1,300 items for the Spearfish Food Pantry and the Artemis House recently.
As a part of the event, nearly 80 students formed teams and went to assigned neighborhoods asking for non-perishable food items. One group of students went to Wal-Mart to request donations from customers for the Artemis House.
Participants gathered 1,338 food items for the Spearfish Food Pantry and multiple items for the Artemis House in just an hour and a half. A total of $72 was also collected for the cause.
After participants finished collecting donations, the students met in the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Legacy Room for a costume contest and a short program from representatives from the Spearfish Food Pantry and the Artemis House.
Planning participants were Heidepriem Hall president Sarah Hansen, vice president Alison Harkness, and resident assistant Cherise Anderson; Humbert Hall president Travis Bult and vice president Jessica Paulin. The event was sponsored by BHSU Residence Hall Association (RHA).
