Dr. David A. Wolff, associate professor of history at Black Hills State University recently authored a book from the South Dakota State Historical Society Press that looks at the many roles of Seth Bullock in his long, productive life.
Wolff examines the life work of Bullock as he helped build Deadwood, found the town of Belle Fourche, and promote the Black Hills in Seth Bullock: Black Hills Lawman.
Wolff explores Bullock’s arrival in the Black Hills at the start of the gold rush in 1876 and finds that Bullock’s difficult yet dynamic life epitomized that of many entrepreneurs and pioneers across the nation. As a thinker and dreamer Bullock experienced both successes and failures during his 43 years in the Black Hills.
Seth Bullock: Black Hills Lawman is the third book in the South Dakota Biography Series, which highlights some of the state’s most famous residents.
Wolff is an award-winning author focusing on Black Hills, South Dakota, mining and western history. An interview with Wolff is online at www.sdshspress.com.
Seth Bullock: Black Hills Lawman is available at the BHSU bookstore for $12.95. Visit http://www.bhsubookstore.com/ to learn more.
