Junior high and high school students gather at BHSU for Black Hills Jazz Festival

Junior high and high school students from around the region gathered at Black Hills State University for the Black Hills Jazz Festival.

Black Hills State University once again hosted the Black Hills Jazz Festival, which featured talented young musicians from around the area the junior high and high school level.

The junior high/middle school champions were: choir division - first place, Spearfish Middle School; second place, Sundance (Wyo.) Junior High School. First place vocal jazz band was awarded to Douglas Middle School. The jazz band winners were: first place, Spearfish Middle School; second place, Sturgis Williams Middle School; and third place, Sundance (Wyo.) Junior High School.

The awards for class A vocal jazz competition went to: first place, Buffalo (Wyo.) High School; and second place, St. Thomas More High School.

Class A jazz band awards went to: first place, St. Thomas More High School; and second, Belle Fourche High School.

The class AA first place award for vocal jazz was awarded to Williston (N.D.) High School.

The class AA award for first place show choir went to Sheridan (Wyo.) High School.

The first place class AA jazz band award went to Williston (N.D.) high school.

The class B show choir title went to Sundance (Wyo.) High School.

The class B vocal jazz awards were: first place, Miller High School; and second place was awarded to Sundance (Wyo.) High School.

The class B jazz band competition winners were: first and second place, Sundance (Wyo.) High School; and third place, Miller High School.

In addition to the awards above there were awards given for Outstanding Instrumental Soloists and Outstanding Vocal Soloists. The winners for the Outstanding Vocal Soloists include: Callie Chamberlain, Williston (N.D.) High School; Patrick Garber, Sheridan (Wyo.) High School; and Chancey Holso, Sheridan (Wyo.) High School.
