Athena by Deborah Mitchell

The Ruddell Gallery at Black Hills State University will feature “Deborah Mitchell: Paintings, Prints, and Drawings” through
April 3.

The exhibition features a series of encaustic paintings which are created using heated wax to which colored pigments are added. One group was inspired by satellite images of the earth another by the sheer vibrancy of the media. The show also includes drawings from an exhibition which was featured during the BMW Motorcycle Owners National Rally in Gillette, Wyo., last year, as well as mixed media prints that were created by Mitchell when she was South Dakota Arts Council fellow in Greece.

Mitchell is the director of the Apex Gallery at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, where she also teaches drawing and art history. She has shown her work in Greece, Kenya, Finland, New York City, Boston, Taos, Seattle, and the Black Hills.

The Ruddell Gallery is located on the second floor of the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union on the BHSU campus and is open during regular business hours. All shows are free of charge.
