BHSU welcomes reading consultant to campus Feb. 25

Black Hills State University will host guest speaker Chryse Hutchins, a national and international reading consultant, Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 4-5 p.m. in Jonas Hall room 305.

Hutchins is the co-author of, “7 Keys to Comprehension: How to Help Your Kids Read it and Get It.”  Her book gives parents and teachers practical, thoughtful advice about the seven simple thinking strategies that proficient readers use:

  • Connecting reading to their background knowledge
  • Creating sensory images
  • Asking questions
  • Drawing inferences
  • Determining what's important
  • Synthesizing ideas
  • Solving problems

The discussion will focus on Hutchins experience that validates children’s ideas about reading and that cultivate partnerships among learners to support reading competencies.

Admission is free and open to the public. This event is sponsored by the BHSU Reading Council and the BHSU College of Education.
