The primary purpose of the BHSU Center is to provide a responsive and reliable source for quality business and tourism research and analysis. The Center also serves as an information and resource hub for the University, small businesses and entrepreneurs of the region. It also provides opportunities for real-life experience for students.
“The Center is a uniquely valuable resource for business development services. We will collaborate with the business community and economic development organizations to foster business growth in the region,” Zwetzig says.
Zwetzig noted that there are opportunities for the Center to serve the region and believes that the emergence of the Sanford Lab will bring many additional opportunities. The Center recently developed an Online Customer Service Training Module for the S.D. Office of Tourism. The training system was launched this spring and is currently being used by hundreds of front line employees who come into contact with visitors to South Dakota. The online training was one of several successful collaborative projects between the BHSU Center and the Office of Tourism including the South Dakota Travel Monitoring System (see www.SDVisit.com).
Entrepreneurs and businesses in the area can contact the Center for: marketing research, business plan review, organizational design, staffing and recruiting assistance, business health assessment, assistance with human resource policy and handbook creation, inventory planning and process design, product or service pricing analysis, assistance in locating office space, creating training workshops and seminars, and website evaluation, monitoring and feedback.
“Barb’s leadership abilities will be extremely valuable as the Center addresses new business opportunities and takes current commitments to the next level. She has the skills and experience to develop and manage new projects that will benefit the region. We are delighted and fortunate to have Barb as part of our team,” Dr. Priscilla Romkema, dean of the College of Business and Technology at BHSU, says.
Zwetzig, who began as director last month, has a master’s degree in business administration from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo., and a bachelor’s degree in geological engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Zwetzig was formerly senior director of operations for Boomerang Management Enterprises in Rapid City, a start-up company in the field of medical office management solutions and support. She also formerly served as a business process consultant and project manager for Agilent Technologies/Hewlett Packard in Colorado.
Zwetzig and her assistant, Chris Coolidge, have offices in a campus building directly across from the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union on the BHSU campus in Spearfish. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contact the Center by calling 642-6276.
