Black Hills State University accounting students are volunteering their time to assist students, elderly, low-income individuals, and veterans with tax preparation and filing as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Students in instructor Robin Meyerink’s Advanced Income Tax class had to pass three levels of certification in order to volunteer for the program. So far the students have filed nearly 150 tax returns.
The South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) at Black Hills State University recently received a grant in the amount of $1,500 from the Spearfish Area Community Foundation-City of Spearfish Fund. SD CEO plans to use the funds to enhance efforts to provide training, counseling, and business assistance to prospective entrepreneurs (with a special emphasis on women) in an effort to enhance their business management and leadership skills, contributing to economic development and a brighter future for the region.
Black Hills State University will host the annual Hunger Banquet Tuesday, March 29 at 5 p.m. in the David B. Miller Student Union Jacket Legacy Room.
Black Hills State University will offer a non-credit Private Pilot Ground School course, taught by a Certified Flight Instructor (CFII) with Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) rating. The 10-week course will be held on the BHSU campus Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., beginning May 12.
