Library
The E.Y. Berry Library Learning Center is a major resource center at Black Hills State University. It also serves as a place for students to get together to study and do research. A coffee shop located right in the library serves as a meeting place for faculty, staff, and students.
Student Counseling Center
Black Hills State University Counseling Center provides on-campus counseling to currently enrolled students. Our professional counselors at BHSU are committed to providing unbiased, culturally sensitive, high-quality care to students in a non-judgmental, objective, confidential setting. Our counseling services are for a wide variety of concerns such as day-to-day stress, immediate crisis, academic concerns, relationship stressors, adjustment concerns, personal growth, trauma recovery, etc.
Student Health Services
BHSU and Student Health Services are committed to high-quality health care for our students at the most reasonable cost possible. We are dependent upon student participation. We are determined to increase the level of health awareness, identify needs that have not been met, and set health care priorities for our students.
Student Support Services
Student Support Services (SSS) is one of seven federal TRIO programs, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, for students who are serious about graduating from college. The Student Support Services program at BHSU serves 200 students who are first-generation college students, students from low-income households, or students who have a documented disability.
Testing Services:
The Student Success Center offers on-campus standardized testing and student advisement. We can assist with proctoring tests for students enrolled in distance learning/online programs at other universities. Standardized tests administered include ACCUPLACER Placement Testing; CLEP and DSST testing to earn college credit; and the Proficiency Exam CAAP, which is required for all students who have successfully completed 48 credit hours. This office also serves as the national test administrator for the ACT, PRAXIS, LSAT, and GRE Subject tests.
Veteran Affairs
The Veterans' Services at BHSU are extended to current members and veterans of the United States Armed Forces as well as their dependents. Our staff will aid in researching and receiving education benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the State of South Dakota, as well as state/federal organizations. We are here to offer a place for independent study and a safe atmosphere where veterans can feel free to share military experiences.
