The Psychology Club is a student organization whose mission shall be to encourage, promote, and build a greater understanding of the field of psychology throughout the student body, university, and community.
What is Psychology?
Psychology is a science. It is the science of describing, understanding, predicting, and trying to control behavior and mental processes. Psychology is a very large subject area with numerous schools of thought and many different areas and fields of study. Psycholgy evolved out of the biology and philosophy fields of study. Today, the psychology program at BHSU has evolved into an excellent area of study with its outstanding faculty, interesting courses, and of course, you the student.
What is the Psychology Club?
The Psychology Club is a student organization dedicated to having fun and working hard. We are both a social and academic club. We work with the student population, University, and community in an effort to better them and ourselves. We hold fundraisers, social activities, volunteer, donate our time and efforts, and much more!
Who is involved with the Psychology Club?
Anyone with an interest in psychology or other behavioral sciences and a desire to get involved. You don't have to be a psychology major or minor to join. You just have to want to be there, it's that simple.
Why should I get involved?
There are so many great reasons to get involved with any student organization, and the Psychology Club is no different. This is not just something to add to your resume. By getting involved with the Psychology Club you will meet and make new friends, get to know the faculty on a personal level, learn new skills both in and outside of psychology, have the opportunity to attend conferences, learn more about graduate school and career opportunities, and serve the community. By becoming a Psychology Club member you will get the chance to have fun, maybe even learn a little something, and make a difference!
How can I get involved?
It's simple, just talk to any of the psychology professors or talk to any current member of the organization. Find out when a meeting or activity is scheduled for and show up and be a part the fun. Whatever your interests may be, Psych Club has something to offer you, and we know you have something to offer us! For more information you can talk to any of our current officers or faculty members:
Take Back the Night: Annual event held that uses on/off campus community members to bring awareness and education to domestic violence and sexual assault. Happens in October/November.
Bowling with Psych Club: We usually hold an event at Lucky Strike lanes at the beginning of the semester to bring new members to the club. There is free glow bowling for students!
Grad School Panel: In the Spring semester we hold a panel of faculty members and current students who are applying/successfully got into graduate school. The event is for those interested in continuing their education in Psychology past their undergrad.
Stop Stigma Campaign: This year we held our first annual campaign to stop mental illness stigma. We spread information and mental health resources both through social media and on campus advertisements.
Psych Activity Book: We are currently working on a project where we self-publish a psychology activity book. Attend meetings to be a part of the fun!
