BHSU MUSIC DEPARTMENT TO PRESENT ANNUAL MADRIGAL DINNER

The Black Hills State University Music Department will be hosting their annual Madrigal Dinner fundraiser Dec. 5-7 at 6:30 p.m. in Meier Hall, with a social hour at 5:30 p.m.

The dinner will feature an ensemble of 16 singers that specialize in performing early Renaissance music. The singers, dressed in Renaissance attire, will portray a sixteenth-century king, queen, and court who have invited the audience to a Christmas feast in the castle’s great hall, complete with a recorder ensemble, herald trumpeters, a murder mystery, and a post-dinner concert. The concert will include works from Renaissance composers Adrian Willeart, William Byrd, John Wilbye, and others. During the dinner portion of the evening, the court and court jester will present a program with performances of traditional carols, including “The Boar’s Head Carol,” “A Wassail Song,” and “Silent Night.”

“The Madrigal Dinner is a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season with great music, food, and fun while supporting scholarships for BHSU students,” said Dr. Jonathan Nero, professor of music at BHSU.

The Madrigal Dinner is $60 per plate and features roasted sweet potato and apple soup for starters, roasted turkey breast with apricot and cranberry pan sauce, apricot wild rice stuffing, and green beans as the main course, and an orange cranberry bread pudding with vanilla creme anglaise for dessert.
