BHSU Graduate and Spearfish native, Stacy L (Trezona) Goodman was promoted to full Colonel in the United States Army Reserve last Saturday September 11th in a ceremony hosted by her husband, US Army Colonel (retired) Matthew Goodman. The new rank was attached by her mother, Kathy Standen, and her grandmother Marilyn Rosenau, both lifetime Spearfish residents.

The ceremony was fittingly opened by a stirring rendition of The National Anthem played by volunteers of the Spearfish Spartan Band conducted by Ms. Katie Appl.

“Twenty-Seven years ago, I enlisted as a combat engineer in our own 842d Engineer Company”, Goodman remarked “but the first uniform I ever wore was the same as yours” she said, gesturing to the band.

“The Army has provided me the adventures and opportunities of a lifetime, and the foundation that made it all possible was laid here in the Spearfish community”, Goodman concluded.

In keeping with Army tradition, the ceremony closed with a Sabre cake-cutting assisted by the most disguised of the group, Marilyn Rosenau, and the youngest of the attendees, Zenae Hughes, of the Spartan Band.
