More BHSU-RC scholarships are now available thanks to an additional John T. Vucurevich Foundation pledge

The John T. Vucurevich Foundation has pledged to nearly double their scholarship donation for Black Hills State University – Rapid City (BHSU-RC) creating additional scholarships for students taking classes in Rapid City.

The Vucurevich Foundation scholarships will increase from $41,666 per year to $80,000 a year over the next two years for students attending BHSU-RC.

For the past four years, the John T. Vucurevich Foundation has partnered with BHSU as a part of their Prosperity Initiative.

“The John T. Vucurevich Foundation continues to be a tremendous supporter of BHSU students and we appreciate their support very much,” says Steve Meeker, vice president for University Advancement at BHSU. “They have helped more than 180 BHSU students over the years.”

This pledge will create new scholarships for BHSU-RC students with scholarships ranging from $1,000-2,000 a semester. For details about the scholarships or to apply see www.BHSU.edu/RapidCity/Scholarships

“Through the generous support of the John T. Vucurevich Foundation, BHSU-RC has been able to provide scholarship assistance to help students attend college,” says Gene Bilodeau, executive director of BHSU-RC. “Without this support, many of the recipients would not have the opportunity to enhance their lives by increasing their knowledge and skills which will lead to better employability and a better quality of life.”

The John T. Vucurevich Foundation awards grants supporting the advancement of the arts, education and science, and the promotion of social welfare within South Dakota, with preference given to the West River area and the Black Hills.

According to Meeker, the John T. Vucurevich Foundation has been moving their funding to make a more strategic impact on Black Hills community. Part of this move includes focusing on their “cradle to career” continuum of funding. This continuum includes scholarships that supports non-traditional students pursuing an education that will lead them toward higher-income careers. The goals of the BHSU-RC program match the Foundation’s requirements as identified in their Prosperity Initiative.

This donation adds continued momentum to the BHSU Capital Campaign, which aims to increase scholarships that was announced on Nov. 28.

BHSU-RC is located at 4300 Cheyenne Blvd. on the east side of Rapid City with easy access from I-90.
