BHSU raises record amount for student scholarships

Bob and Vicki Worth received the Difference Maker Award at the 2017 Black Hills State University Scholarship Gala held recently. The Difference Maker Award is given each year to the University's top donor.
Supporters and friends of Black Hills State University raised a record amount at the BHSU Scholarship Gala for student scholarships.
Steve Meeker, Vice President for University Advancement, said $42,700 was raised, the highest amount ever at the annual event.
"The total amount of funds donated will benefit BHSU students by providing need and merit-based scholarships," said Meeker. "We look forward to continuing to assist students in earning their college degrees with this support."
During the event, Bob and Vicki Worth were announced as recipients of the 2016 Difference Maker Award. The Difference Maker Award is given each year to the University's top donor.
Bob Worth, Class of 1974, and his wife Vicki have contributed over $155,000 to scholarships at BHSU. Programs on campus which have benefited from the Worth's support include business, communications, and athletics.
Bob started his banking career in Sturgis while attending BHSU. He was an executive vice president for Wells Fargo & Company. Vicki was a teacher in the Lead/Deadwood school district and continuing education courses at BHSU.
"Bob and Vicki have been very generous over the years offering scholarships to many students. They recently placed BHSU into their estate plan to ensure that their support will remain in perpetuity and we can't thank them enough," said Meeker.
Nearly 150 BHSU supporters attended the Scholarship Gala which included dinner, live music, and silent and live auctions. Gavin Brucklacher, business administration major from Philip, shared his story with attendees about how scholarships have helped him achieve his goals.
The Gala theme was "Rooted in Education: Because of You - Anything is Possible." First Interstate Bank served as the Gala Corporate Sponsor.
