New job keeps BHSU accounting grad in South Dakota
Maisee Pickart, professional accountancy and business administration-management major from Stickney, will graduate from Black Hills State University this weekend and then begin a full-time job at an accounting firm in Pierre.
Maisee Pickart is one of nearly 430 students who will graduate from Black Hills State University this weekend. A South Dakota native, Maisee says she is glad to be able to stay in her home state as she begins her career in accounting.
After graduating from BHSU this weekend Maisee will move to Pierre to work at an accounting firm. She'll also begin studying for the CPA exam this summer.
Looking back on her time at BHSU, Maisee said her experience with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will continue to impact her life.
"During tax classes at BHSU we are involved in VITA, a volunteer program to help people who have a very low income or no income to complete their taxes," said Maisee. "We volunteer, get accounting experience, and we are able to help people in the community."
Originally from the town of Stickney, Maisee first visited BHSU in high school for Youth Business Adventure (YBA), a week-long business camp.
"I feel in love with the BHSU campus when I was out here for that week in high school. BHSU is one of the most beautiful campuses," said Maisee.
It was beauty and brains that made BHSU the school of choice for Maisee. The natural setting of the University in the Black Hills, combined with the BHSU School of Business AACSB accreditation meant Maisee could graduate from a business school in the top 5 percent worldwide.
Maisee returned to Spearfish to begin college at BHSU and double majored in professional accountancy and business administration-management.
"Laura Prosser, assistant professor of accounting, is tough but she makes you know the material. I've been thankful for that every day since I ended her class," said Maisee. "She'll have a huge role in my success in the future."
