BHSU students to host Curiosity Week, engaging campus, community to learn

The Black Hills State University International Student Organization (ISO) is ready to begin Curiosity Week, a weeklong event that invites the BHSU community to simply, be curious.

The International Student Organization spearheaded Curiosity Week, Nov. 7-14, and was supported by a variety of BHSU student organizations and offices. Events have been planned that education BHSU students on a variety of campus activities from student organizations, classes, athletic events and study abroad programs.

"We believe that BHSU has a great potential, a pool of amazing students and passionate leaders that will one day help shape the world we live in," said Karin Humar, business administration-marketing major from Slope, Slovenia and ISO president. "So why not organize a week of curiosity to encourage everyone to try new things, start saying "YES!" and equip them with the idea that 'Anything is possible'."

She noted that all organizations and BHSU departments are encouraged to participate by reminding themselves and students to "be curious." Everyone on campus and in the community are encouraged to try new things and see the world with a different perspective.

Curiosity Week kicks off Saturday, Nov. 7 with the International Food Festival from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the BHSU Student Union. The annual festival offers the opportunity to try ethnic dishes from 18 countries from around the world.

Other events during the week include study abroad, student organization and major fairs, a Say YES! Conference, Geek Speak lecture and football game. Humar encourages those that have not attended a Geek Speak lecture or Yellow Jacket event to do so this week.

"We only regret things we didn't do in our lives and curiosity is a great characteristic to have. It dares us to try new things," Humar said. "I want to show BHSU students and the community what we offer on campus and reiterate how important it is to be curious, opened minded and involved."
