David L. Crawford, PhD, CPA, CGMA

David Crawford has over 40 years of experience working for corporations, public accounting firms, and higher education institutions. Since 1981, he has worked in the three primary areas of accountancy – public accounting, private accounting, and accounting education – where he has made considerable contributions to both the profession and discipline of accounting.

Crawford completed undergraduate studies at South Dakota State University followed by additional work at Augustana College. A CPA since 1984, he subsequently earned a Master of Professional Accountancy degree from the University of South Dakota in 1986. Continuing his education while teaching full-time, David earned a PhD in higher education with a cognate in accounting from the University of North Dakota.

Dr. Crawford has held tenured faculty positions at the University of Minnesota and currently, at Black Hills State University, where he is a full professor. He teaches primarily in the areas of financial accounting and auditing.Research interests include accounting education and professional issues that affect public accountants. Crawford has published in several peer-reviewed journals and has presented research at regional, national, and international levels.

David is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Accounting Association, and the South Dakota CPA Society. In addition to being a CPA, he is also a Chartered Global Management Accountant.
