SILVA NAMED INTERIM DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES AT BHSU

Longtime BHSU professor Dr. Betsy Silva will begin serving a one-year appointment as interim dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences on June 22.
Dr. Betsy Silva, a longtime professor at Black Hills State University, has been named to a one-year appointment as interim dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences.
 
“I look forward to working with Dr. Silva as she serves in this key leadership position,” said Dr. Priscilla Romkema, who was recently named Provost at BHSU.
 
Romkema noted that Silva brings a strong portfolio of skills, expertise, and experiences to the academic dean position. Silva will serve as a facilitative leader who works collaboratively with faculty and staff to advance the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, support and serve the students, engage with alumni and members of the community, and seek opportunities that will further strengthen programs.
 
Throughout her career at BHSU, Silva has received numerous prestigious recognitions for teaching. She has also been integrally involved in a number of high profile administrative initiatives and has significant professional service. Silva is recognized on campus as an energetic, positive leader with collaborative oversight and strong management expertise of personnel, policy, finance, and accreditation.
 
Silva earned a doctorate in education and a master’s in physical education-curriculum and instruction from the University of Northern Colorado and an undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry from the University of Michigan.
 
Silva will begin serving as interim dean on June 22.
