Description: Is political science boring? It doesn’t have to be! In this Geek Speak, I will demonstrate how the instructional use of television shows and movie scenes can bring to life political subject matter for students. Topics to be explored include party politics, constitutional design, humanitarian intervention, presidential legacy, electoral politics, and effectual virtue. Scenes will be selected from: (1) John Adams, (2) The West Wing, (3) Game of Thrones, (4) Black Hawk Down, (5) Apocalypse Now, and (6) The Manchurian Candidate.

BHSU accounting majors assist community members with tax preparation

Each spring, Black Hills State University hosts the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Clinic for individuals needing assistance with their tax returns. BHSU offers an Advanced Income Tax course which allows students to become certified by the IRS to work as tax preparers in the clinic. The clinic opened earlier this month and continues until Saturday, April 4.

$10,000 scholarships to BHSU available to high school seniors

High school seniors who attend Black Hills State University may be eligible for $10,000 scholarships, thanks to a donation by T. Denny Sanford to the Horatio Alger Association Endowment. Fifteen scholarships of $10,000 each are dedicated to incoming students at BHSU. The Denny Sanford Scholarship application is open until March 15 at: https://app.smarterselect.com/programs/59963-Horatio-Alger-Association
