Alumni and community members are invited to gather at Spearfish Downtown Friday Nights to celebrate “BHSU Night” Aug. 18, the same day that new students move into their residence halls.

Corinne Hansen, director of University and Community Relations at BHSU, encourages area businesses and organizations to wear their BHSU apparel all day Friday Aug. 18 to welcome students to Spearfish.

“When new students and their parents arrive in Spearfish, they are always impressed by the warm welcome by the whole community,” Hansen said.

She noted that everyone is invited to BHSU appreciation night at Spearfish Downtown Friday nights too. Activities, prizes and a photo booth will be available in front of the Jacket Zone on Main Street.

Drawings will be held for prizes including a $500 academic scholarship to BHSU, season tickets to Yellow Jacket Athletics games, and a gift certificate with the Black Hills Party Pedaler.

Downtown Friday Nights attendees have been entering the prize drawing throughout the summer by spinning the BHSU Wheel outside of the Jacket Zone storefront. Community members can continue to enter the drawing through Aug. 18.

Sting, the BHSU mascot, will also be in the crowd and available for photos and high-fives with Yellow Jacket fans of all ages.

The BHSU Campus and Community Fair will be held in the Young Center Field House Sunday, Aug. 20 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. BHSU classes begin Aug. 21.
