BHSU Comeback Extravaganza

Author: Gustave Karinen/Wednesday, July 8, 2020/Categories: Events, 2020

Event date: 8/22/2020 Export event

On August 22, 2020, BHSU will be hosting the BHSU Comeback Extravaganza at Lyle Hare Stadium. The event is replacing this year’s Annual Scholarship Gala and the previously postponed 4th Annual Gold Rush Raffle & Auction that was scheduled for April 25. We are merging the event to make one great evening of fun while raising scholarship dollars. Social hour will begin at six with the dinner/raffle and auction starting at seven p.m. All CDC guidelines and social distancing protocols will be followed.

The night will take on more of a “pep rally” theme where we will all celebrate our BHSU pride. There will be the same elements of the Scholarship Gala, but will now include the Reverse Raffle (*Chance to win $5,000 that the Gold Rush Raffle typically offers). This is a great opportunity to interact with and get to know scholarship recipients. This celebration hopes to aid in coming back together from recent events stronger as a community.

Last year, the 2019 Gala fundraiser raised a record $164,000 for student scholarships and the Gold Rush Raffle & Auction netted over $47,000 for student-athlete scholarships. We are so thankful for your contributions, continued support, and loyalty to the BHSU Family. BHSU and the Spearfish community hope that we can return to somewhat normalcy for the upcoming year. We anticipate that this event will be the spark we need to assist in “Returning to Normal”. Tickets are $125 each and includes dinner, program and a chance to win $5,000. For ticket information, contact steve.meeker@bhsu.edu.

South Dakota Stock Market Game program announces fall session winning teams

BHSU Communications 0 311

The 2020 fall session of the South Dakota Stock Market Game concluded its 10-week trading period on Friday, December 11.  A total of 312 students from 13 high schools, middle schools and colleges across South Dakota formed 141 teams of stock market investors.  The program provides teams of student stock market investors a hypothetical $100,000 to perform online investing in real-time stocks, bonds and mutual funds.  The program’s carefully integrated curriculum lets students experience the financial markets in the classroom as they learn about business, math, economics, personal finance and the importance of saving and investing for the long term.  Student teams compete for prizes in the High School, Middle School and College divisions.
