KENADI JEAN WEIS FOUNDATION ESTABLISHES TWO SCHOLARSHIPS AT BHSU

SPEARFISH… The Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation created two scholarships on behalf of The Black Hills State University Foundation and the Yellow Jacket Foundation to be awarded to a special education major and a Yellow Jacket student-athlete, respectfully.

The Kenadi Jean Weis Memorial Scholarship will be granted each year to a special education major at BHSU, and The Kenadi Jean Weis Athletic Memorial Scholarship will be presented to a Yellow Jacket student-athlete.

“We are so honored to team up with Black Hills State University to create these scholarships in memory of Kenadi,” Kelly Weis-Schultz, President of the Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation, said.

“We are very appreciative of the continued generosity of the Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation,” Vice President of University Advancement Steve Meeker said. “These two scholarships at BHSU will memorialize a very special girl and keep her legacy alive and well. We are so pleased with our relationship with the foundation.”

The recipients of the Kenadi Jean Weis Memorial Scholarship will be selected each year by Black Hills State University. Recipients must be a full-time student at BHSU, a special education major, possess a GPA of 3.0 or better, and a junior or senior-level student.

“A solid teacher offers inspiration and encouragement so that students achieve success inside and outside the classroom. When it comes to children with special needs, teachers must possess characteristics that help them deal with physical and cognitive differences. Kenadi’s teacher, Miss Betty, was that teacher and the stimulus for the Kenadi Jean Weis Memorial Scholarship,” Weis-Schultz said.

The beneficiaries of the Kenadi Jean Weis Athletic Memorial Scholarship will be chosen each year by Black Hills State University. Recipients must be a full-time student at BHSU, possess a GPA of 2.6 or better, a junior or senior-level student, and a student-athlete (preference will be given to a student-athlete studying special education). This scholarship will be awarded to a student-athlete who possesses authentic qualities including kindness, compassion, fairness, dependability, determination, courage, and loyalty.

“Kenadi loved playing basketball and was the proud recipient of several pieces of Future Yellow Jacket gear. Although faced with global delays from an anoxic birth injury she displayed great bravery, determination, and a fighting Jacket spirit. It is with this in mind that the Kenadi Jean Weis Athletic Memorial Scholarship was established,” Weis-Schultz said.
