DC couple establishes Goodman Scholarship for Critical Political Thought at BHSU

Black Hills State University alum Stacy (Trezona) Goodman, Class of 1999, and her spouse Matthew Goodman recently established a scholarship fund for political science and history majors at BHSU.
The couple says the Goodman Scholarship for Critical Political Thought was inspired by both their personal ties to South Dakota and their professional experience in Washington, D.C.
"After living in Washington, D.C. for three years we see how important it is to encourage people to be involved in their government and understand how their government works," says Stacy. "And we think it would be good to have more South Dakotans in politics!"
Stacy is a Lieutenant Colonel she currently works as a legislative liaison for the U.S. Army Reserve. She has served in the military for over 23 years. Originally from Spearfish, Stacy started her Army career with the 842nd Engineer Company. She received her bachelor's degree in marketing from BHSU and holds a master of professional studies degree in legislative affairs from The George Washington University and a doctor of philosophy degree from Capella University.
Matthew is a Colonel in the U.S. Army assigned to the Pentagon and will retire this December with over 30 years' service to the nation. He is originally from Arizona and earned his bachelor's degree from Arizona State University and holds a master's degree in strategic studies from the United States Army War College. His daughter Corinne (Goodman) McCafferty and son-in-law Ian are both BHSU graduates.
The couple says they established the scholarship at BHSU to give back to the University community. Many of their family members are graduates of BHSU. The Goodmans plan to relocate to Spearfish this summer after Matthew's military retirement.
"Through this scholarship we hope to encourage students at BHSU and help them earn degrees in the important fields of political science and history," says Stacy.
South Dakota residents who are graduates of South Dakota high schools are eligible for the scholarship.
