Trait Thorne, professional accountancy major from Murdo, will begin a new position at Casey Peterson & Associates, LTD in Rapid City after graduating from Black Hills State University May 7.

When Trait Thorne graduates from Black Hills State University this weekend, she'll also graduate into a new position at Casey Peterson & Associates, LTD. in Rapid City.

Thorne, professional accountancy major from Murdo, will go from intern to auditor at Casey Peterson thanks to her hard work this past semester coupled with her new college degree. She says BHSU helped prepare her for her career by providing opportunities to meet employers and work one-on-one with professors.

"The professor who most inspired me at BHSU was Laura Prosser. I really enjoyed her Managerial Accounting course, she's very motivational and it really clicked for me," said Thorne.

Thorne says Prosser, assistant professor of accounting, took one look at Thorne's color-coordinated class schedule and affirmed her path as an accountant.

Thorne currently serves as President of Enactus, an international organization that brings together student, academic and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to shape a better, more sustainable world. She also serves as vice president of Presidential Student Ambassadors, a group of students who represent BHSU and help alumni keep in touch with campus life.

"These leadership experiences have helped me become more of a people person, make connections and meet some outstanding individuals," said Thorne. "My favorite college memory was going to nationals for Enactus and having fun with all my fellow members."

As a future accountant, it's only natural that Thorne says she likes working with numbers. Everything has a place, she says, and it will all add up. But the end of her college career is bittersweet.

"I'm going to miss everything about campus and how beautiful it is here," says Thorne. "I'll miss getting to see all my friends, even if you're just walking across campus and saying hi."
