SD CEO Women's Business Center awarded renewal grant

The South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) Women&rsquos Business Center, located on the campus of Black Hills State University has been awarded a three year renewal grant by the SBA (Small Business Administration) Office of Women&rsquos Business Ownership, Washington, DC, upon successful completion of the initial five-year grant cycle. The three year cycle will be extended continuously upon meeting grant objectives.

Serving over 1400 clients from 48 counties in South Dakota since its inception, this Women&rsquos Business Center is funded in party by a matching grant from the Small Business Administration, BHSU and the local, regional and statewide business community.


The SD CEO is the only SBA Women&rsquos Business Center in the state of South Dakota. In 2013 SD CEO was awarded the SBA Region VIII Women&rsquos Business Center of Excellence award and 2013 SBA District Office Women&rsquos Business Center of Excellence award in recognition of exemplary achievement and innovation.

SD CEO&rsquos mission is to provide comprehensive training, support and counseling for aspiring and established entrepreneurs to foster economic development in South Dakota. While services are available to anyone interested in business, the center has a special emphasis on: women Native Americans socially and economically disadvantaged youth entrepreneurs and women veterans.

The SD CEO Women&rsquos Business Center provides business education, training and counseling to all who are interested. Classes have included: QuickBooks marketing and online marketing Photoshop InDesign government contracting sales and use tax and creating a website. SD CEO also hosts several events throughout the year including: Women&rsquos Business Conferences in Yankton and Deadwood Celebrating Women in Business Luncheon and awards program Women&rsquos History Month event and Women&rsquos Leadership series. The fifth annual Women&rsquos Business Conference held in October 2014 at the Lodge at Deadwood attracted 300 participants from across the state. In September 2014 SD CEO hosted a Women&rsquos Business Conference in Yankton to expand their reach across the state.

The SD CEO is partially funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration. The support given by the U.S. Small Business Administration through such funding does not constitute an expressed or implied endorsement of any of the components or participants&rsquo opinions, products or services. SD CEO operates under Cooperative Agreement SBAHQ-14-W-0018. Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities will be made if requested at least two weeks in advance. All SBA programs and services are provided to the public on a nondiscriminatory basis. Accommodation will be provided to clients with Limited English Proficiency when requested in advance.
