BHSU to hold photo contest, exhibition for 2015 World Tourism Days

Black Hills State University is looking to capture South Dakota tourism in a unique way.  

South Dakota student photographers are asked to participate in the 2015 World Tourism Days Photo Contest &amp Exhibition. Photographs in the contest will depict the opportunities that tourism creates in the state. The photo contest is part of a larger, week-long World Tourism Days celebration that will be held in September in partnership with the South Dakota Department of Tourism.

"It&rsquos time to celebrate the diversity of the businesses in our community and contribution of tourism in society," Cahyanto said. "We want to capture the different range of the tourism business."

The photo contest is currently open for submissions. All South Dakota students at universities, colleges and high schools are eligible to submit their work. Submissions must be original photographs completed within the past two years that celebrate what makes South Dakota a special place to live, work and most importantly visit. Photo submissions should capture how tourism opens the door to multiple opportunities in South Dakota. Cahyanto said that tourism impacts Spearfish socially, environmentally and economically.

The deadline for photo submissions is Sept. 4. Photographers can submit their images online at Photographers will be notified of their acceptance on Sept. 7.

Awards will be announced during World Tourism Days in September. First place will receive a full scholarship to the Black Hills Photo Shootout (a $500 value) second place will receive $150 third place and People&rsquos Choice will receive $100 each.

The 2015 World Tourism Days theme is "One Billion Tourists, One Billion Opportunities," which highlights the contribution of the tourism industry in opening doors to opportunities not only around the world, but locally in the Black Hills region.

The BHSU tourism and hospitality management program will plan a series of special events under the 2015 World of Tourism Days theme, relating it to the role BHSU plays in producing high quality tourism professionals in South Dakota.

In addition to the photo contest, other special events will take place throughout the week, including a Tourism &amp Hospitality Expo. The expo will allow businesses to set up a table on campus, showcase their business and promote internships or other positions within their industry.
