The BHSU Concert Choir announces a Spring Tour including clinics and performances at area schools and performances for the public April 15-19.

Black Hills State University&rsquos Concert Choir begins an eight-city tour of South Dakota April 15 including stops for clinics and performances at secondary schools and formal concerts for the public.

Dr. Jonathan Nero, associate professor of music, said this year&rsquos Spring Tour includes longer stops at South Dakota schools providing more time for coaching and working directly with the local ensembles.

"BHSU music faculty on tour with us will work with instrumental ensembles, choral ensembles and individual performers at the schools we visit. In past years our BHSU students have participated in the school&rsquos choirs and sung in their sections," said Nero.

The BHSU Concert Choir is a select group of 35 university student singers from a variety of disciplines, not just music majors. Nero said the Spring Tour encourages South Dakota students to continue pursuing their interests during college.

"I think there&rsquos a misconception that college ensembles are just for music majors or those who want a career in music," said Nero. "We encourage all students who are involved in music to continue to sing and play no matter what they choose to study at the university level."

During the Spring Tour, the BHSU Concert Choir will perform renaissance motets Venezuelan lullabies Finnish speaking choruses part-songs by Debussy, Brahms, and Schumann and several American and Irish folk songs, including a set of African American spirituals in select cities throughout the state.
