Black Hills State University will honor its donors and raise money for BHSU scholarships during the 1883 Gala this month.

The 1883 Gala is Saturday, Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Joy (Proctor) Krautschun Alumni/Foundation Center at 1351 Saint Joe St. in Spearfish.

The 1883 Gala, which is similar to the 1883 Dinner held in previous years, will showcase the University, raise money for BHSU scholarships and recognize BHSU donors. Donors who have given more than $1,883 in a year or $50,000 or more in a lifetime will be recognized. The 2014 Difference Maker also will be named at the Gala. The Difference Maker is awarded each year to BHSU&rsquos top donor for the previous calendar year.

"The 1883 Gala will be an upscale, fun event that raises funds for scholarships," said Steve Meeker, vice president for University Advancement at BHSU. "It will be similar to the past 1883 events, but we have changed the format to make it a fundraiser."

Tickets are $100 per person or $175 per couple. Reservations for a table of eight are $700 each and include two bottles of wine. All the proceeds from the Gala will go toward University scholarships.

Attendees will be able to designate which scholarships they want their money to go toward. BHSU has made great strides toward increasing scholarships in recent years however, there is still a great need for more financial assistance to students. If attendees do not designate a specific scholarship, the money will go the scholarship that has the greatest need.

Meeker said he expects a good crowd for the Gala.

"Early registrations indicate it will be a fun night we will have quite a few people joining us," he said.

The event is cocktail attire with black tie optional. Heavy hors d&rsquooeuvres and desserts will be served. A cash bar also will be available.

The Green Dolphin Jazz Trio will provide music on the patio, while the Lyle Berry Band will perform inside for dancing.

Please RSVP by Aug. 10 by calling (605) 642-6385, emailing Steve Meeker at Steve.Meeker@BHSU.edu or by registering online at www.BHSU.edu/Gala.
