            Courtney Dahlgren

Courtney Dahlgren, a recent graduate of Timber Lake High School, is this year&rsquos recipient of the Joe and Elaine Floyd Scholarships, a four-year scholarship of $48,000. Dahlgren will attend Black Hills State University in the fall and plans to major in elementary education with a minor in coaching.

The scholarship is reserved for a female ranch student from South Dakota who has a desire to further their education and also participates in the rodeo team.  Dahlgren competed in team roping, goat tying, barrel racing and pole bending in high school at rodeo events.  She also participates in 4-H, the National Honor Society and has been active in her church. She graduated with a 3.7 GPA and played varsity basketball and volleyball for five years. Dahlgren is also involved in her community as a mentor for children at local schools. She said that she is looking forward to being surrounded by great rodeo athletes that offer amazing competition but at the same make her become a better rodeo athlete. Joe and Elaine have lived in South Dakota throughout the years and Elaine attended BHSU in 1953. Elaine also worked for the University as a recruiter and both Joe and Elaine have participated in various events for the University. They now live in Harrisburg and are tremendous supporters of BHSU.

It was Elaine&rsquos dream to not only send her grandchildren to college but to also make it possible for other young people to earn their degrees. As part of the Floyds&rsquo original $1 million dollar donation there have been five recipients since 2012.

The Floyd Scholarship is one of many scholarships that BHSU offers to students. For details about applying for admission and scholarships visit: www.BHSU.edu/Scholarships.
