Local junior high and high schools students will get to create their own media campaign kit during a one-day Media Blitz event at Black Hills State University.  Two sessions of the Media Blitz event will be offered, one on Tuesday, May 13 and one on Wednesday, May 14.

The teams of students can bring in a cause or event they wish to promote and BHSU faculty and students will work with them to develop a broad spectrum of promotional materials, according to Dr. Mitch Hopewell, interim director of Educational Outreach. The student teams will walk away with a media kit that includes a press release, poster, and an audio and video public service announcement.

Faculty will supply student teams with criteria in advance to help them prepare for the day-long event. For the audio and video announcement, students will receive a flash drive that can be taken to local television and radio stations, according to Dr. Scott Clarke, assistant professor of digital communication.

Early registration is $99 per team with the price increasing to $129 after April 15. The registration deadline is May 1.

The Media Blitz event is the first in a series of summer academic camps designed to educate and inspire middle and high school students. The events cover a variety of interests and subject areas including photography, art, sustainability, and creativity and critical thinking.
