Businesses are encouraged to sign up for the Black Hills State University Accounting Career Fair Sept. 23 in Spearfish and Rapid City.

The annual event offers an opportunity for local businesses and accounting students to connect for internships or employment after graduation.

"It&rsquos a one-stop shopping event that allows students to learn about and connect with many businesses in one location," said Laura Prosser, assistant professor of accounting at BHSU. "We encourage students to explore many opportunities prior to graduation and this event provides that perfect place to do just that."

Two sessions will be held. The first is at Black Hills State University and the second is at the University Center-Rapid City. In addition to the career fair, an Accounting Jam, with quick overviews of businesses, will be held prior to each session.

The Accounting Jam offers a unique spin to the career fair, Prosser said. Employers will have two minutes to pitch their company to students. Once the company introductions are complete, the students will have a chance to mingle with potential employers before the career fair begins.

Prosser said the goal of the Accounting Jam was to pique the interest of students in companies they may not have originally visited with during the fair.

"Students are encouraged to network and begin establishing relationships with businesses. It&rsquos never too early to begin this vital step to start a student&rsquos career," Prosser said.

Businesses do not need to have current openings to participate in the fair. The event is also an opportunity for local businesses to network with the University and students.

Businesses can register online at, call Laura Prosser at 605-718-4363 or email

There is no cost to sign up for a booth. Business can sign up for either one of the fairs, or both.
