The Black Hills State University Chamber Singers and Jazz Ensemble will take their musical talents on the road in a two-day tour.

The two BHSU music groups will perform Wednesday, April 2 at 7 p.m. in the T.F. Riggs High School Auditorium, and Thursday, April 3 at 7 p.m. in the Laura Kirsch Room at White River High School in White River.

The BHSU Chamber Singers is a selected ensemble of 18 student singers who specialize in a cappella literature written for smaller groups. Every fall, the Chamber Singers perform the Madrigal Dinner on campus, a fundraiser where the singers dress in Renaissance grab and sing madrigals, motets and carols. Each Spring, the singers perform a more varied repertoire ranging from Renaissance madrigals to romantic part-songs to settings of popular songs.

The BHSU Jazz Ensemble is a small, auditioned ensemble specializing in a wide variety of jazz styles. The group is versatile and meets as a big band as well as small combos playing arrangements by such legends as Charlie Mingus and Thelonius Monk as well as selections from more contemporary composers. The ensemble takes a spring tour every year and has made appearances at jazz festivals nationwide. The Jazz Ensemble provides a venue for students of all majors as well as community members to develop their jazz performance and solo improvisation skills.
