David Dodson, veterans&rsquo resource coordinator at BHSU, presents Dr. Mike Isaacson, dean of students at BHSU, with the 2014 Patriot Award Monday.

Dr. Mike Isaacson, Dean of Students at Black Hills State University, was awarded the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) 2014 Patriot Award on Monday for his outstanding leadership to National Guard and Reserve employees.

The Patriot Award recognizes individual supervisors for their support to an employee and his or her family. The recipient of the award makes great efforts to support citizen soldiers through maintaining flexible work schedules, providing time off prior to and after deployment, and caring for families and granting leaves of absences.

Isaacson was nominated by David Dodson, veterans&rsquo resource coordinator at BHSU.

"There are two things that drive me to hire veterans," Isaacson said. "Veterans have a solid work ethic and a can-do attitude."

Isaacson added that hiring veterans allows him to give back to the men and women that serve the United States.

Francie Ruebel-Alberts, awards director for the ESGR, presented the Patriot Award.

Dodson said Isaacson creates an excellent work environment for not only him, but other veteran employees at BHSU.

The ESGR promotes cooperation between military members and their civilian employers and assists in resolving conflicts that may arise from employees&rsquo military commitments.
