The Black Hills State University bookstore opened a location in downtown Rapid City recently. BHSU apparel and other items can be found in the store, located in the Estes Campbell Law Firm at 706 St. Joseph Street.

Black Hills State University, which has a growing presence in the Rapid City area, recently opened a University Bookstore in downtown Rapid City.

The bookstore, at 706 Saint Joseph Street in the Estes Campbell Law Firm, offers a variety of BHSU items from apparel to coffee mugs to pens and pennants. The Rapid City bookstore is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

"We love having a presence in downtown Rapid City," said Mike Jastorff, director of the BHSU bookstore. "We know that many of our alums live in the Rapid City area so the store downtown provides an opportunity for them as well as all Rapid City residents and visitors to browse and buy BHSU merchandise."

The space is smaller than the bookstore on campus but Jastorff said it provides the perfect selection of BHSU merchandise.

"It's a tickler for customers who stop by," Jastorff said. "If they see something they like or want more selection we invite them to visit our other locations in Spearfish and at the University Center - Rapid City or visit the website for an even larger variety."

Jastorff is looking forward to the summer months when the live music downtown and increased visitor traffic will create even more exposure for BHSU. The store will bring merchandise outside on the sidewalk during special events. In addition to the main bookstore in the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union, smaller stores are also in place at the recently opened Joy (Krautschun) Proctor Alumni/Foundation Welcome Center on campus in Spearfish and the University Center - Rapid City, at 4300 Cheyenne Boulevard. The BHSU Bookstore in downtown Rapid City is just the latest in a number of outreach initiatives BHSU has in place in Rapid City. As the only comprehensive university in western South Dakota, BHSU serves the region in a number of ways.
