D'Aryn Lends His Horse

Eagle Butte, SD

Chemistry Major

D’Aryn always knew she wanted to pursue a career in the health professions. She remembers helping her grandma with insulin shots to control her diabetes. The chemistry major at BHSU was a perfect fit for D’Aryn’s medical aspirations – combining both classroom, laboratory, and research knowledge. D’Aryn says Dr. John Dixson, associate professor of chemistry, was influential in helping her prepare to become a pharmacist.



Bobby Russell

Bellevue, NE

English Education Major

Bobby was a member of the University Honors Program at BHSU. The program is designed to provide the University’s top students with the support and individualized instruction they need to pursue their academic and professional goals. As an English education major, Bobby applied what he was learning to areas he was passionate about: mentoring and literature. He worked with a faculty mentor on research projects and presented at a national conference in Spokane, Wash.



Justin Logue

Volin, SD

Psychology and Political Science Majors

A natural leader, Justin found multiple opportunities on campus to grow his experience and his resume. Elected by his peers as Student Senate President, Justin also helped to launch a mobile app for students during an internship. Justin connected with the BHSU International Office to pursue a study abroad experience. He traveled to southern Central Europe country of Slovenia to study at a BHSU partner university in the city of Ljubljana.



Mathilde Bernard

Alberta, BC, Canada

Elementary Education Major

BHSU was selected by the NCAA and USA Triathlon to have a women’s triathlon team. Mathilde is one of the BHSU team’s first stand-out athletes. She was named the Division II Freshman of the Year and was also named to the Division II All-American Team. As an elementary education major, Mathilde enjoys working with children in the Spearfish community as a swim lesson instructor through Recreational Sports at BHSU.
